Internet Famous Week 3 Reading Reflection

Updated: Oct 1, 2022

In this era, thousands of ordinary people show their unique self to the outside world through the Internet, and gather a large number of fans, becoming an important force in the Internet era. Internet celebrities have fame and fans, but they are very dependent on the platform they are on. And the platform factor is beyond their control. Therefore, if you can't continue to output eye-catching creative content, money and fame will eventually be illusory. Creativity is being democratize; taking the energy of creating content as the cost of making money is the business logic that Internet celebrities must take in. Failing to do this, with the disappearance of short-term IP, their career will only end in vain.

The act of creating art by 19th century painter Edgar Degas serves as an early example of Superfandom. He was arrogant, distant, and cynical. An open misogynist, he thought women were always vulgar. In order to pursue the profound attainments in art, Degas always faced people and things in the world with an attitude of detachment and indifference. He never married, but his artistic career has always been inseparable from women. He despised women and rejected women. But about half of his productions feature young ballet dancers at the Paris Opera, documenting them from a voyeuristic perspective. As a super fan of musicals, he represents dancers in his paintings in an almost morbid way. His work may have helped him reach special heights in the art world, but his record of dancers was a revel of self-gratification.

Youtuber Airrack's social experiment of employing 50 bodyguards is yet another testament to the privileges bestowed on celebrities. Although there is no direct correlation between hiring bodyguards and fame, it is widely recognized that celebrities seem to carry bodyguards with them. So even if someone is dismissive sees Airrack making request to her with one or two bodyguards. When the number of bodyguards increases, not only is it easier to attract people's attention, but also people will come forward to take photos and think that they have actually seen the movies he starred in. Being an ordinary person doesn't allow him to book a reservation but when he carries a bodyguard he gets a table. Despite the sighing result, from the perspective of restaurants, celebrities' own fame can bring publicity to restaurants and even attract consumers. And because of seeing stars that can only be seen in movies, passers-by will be more spontaneously curious. n short, because of various factors, celebrities can indeed be given all kinds of privileges in society because of their identity.
