Consumerism may not seem to have a system that explicitly dominates people, but that's exactly what consumerism is willing to make people believe. Ordinary people and rich people who consume goods at the same price and buy the same luxury goods will not actually bridge the class gap between you and him. The appearance presented by everyone in the field of consumption seems to be the same, but what supports the consumption is ultimately different. Consumer society has its own set of systems for the creation, identification and formulation of value, and the symbolic value far exceeds the actual value. Label value is bound to social value, trademark value is compared to identity. And this system is obviously not control by the consumer. When people fall into such a system, you have completed the stripped away from your actual living situation in the illusory satisfaction of consumption.
