One of the most critical aspects I observed in the VR chat space was how design choices profoundly affected my sense of immersion and self. In some spaces, the avatars were highly customizable, allowing a deep connection with my virtual self. This customization enhanced my immersion, making me feel more connected to the virtual world. However, in other areas, limited avatar options somewhat diluted my sense of identity, reducing the overall immersive quality. while these virtual worlds show immense potential, there are areas where design decisions could be optimized. The balance between realism and fantasy in avatar design is one such area. Too much fantasy can detach users from their virtual selves, while excessive realism might inhibit the escapism many seek in VR. Furthermore, the navigation and user interface in some of these worlds felt clunky and non-intuitive. Improving these aspects could significantly enhance the user experience, making it more seamless and enjoyable.
